1915 The Armenian Files

1915 The Armenian Files is a project inspired by the Armenian genocide, and it includes together with the record, a movie, an exhibition, a radio broadcast, a multimedia concert. The artist is inspired by a sad chapter in history: the Armenian genocide, which took place 100 years ago. In 1915, more than 1,500,000 Armenians were slaughtered by Ottoman government, during what we now remember as the first genocide in human history, emulated by Hitler in order to accomplish his Jewish extermination plan. Nonetheless, a century later, the genocide is still denied by Turkish government. Starting from the Armenian poet Daniel Varoujan’s writings – who was tortured and killed in 1915, when he was 31 years old, by a group of Turkish officials and “policemen” – Roberto combines electronic music, voices, acoustic instruments, rhythms, and sound weaves drawn from archives, and he makes a plot full of suggestions and quotes, which are by now his distinctive features. Boghos Levon Zekiyan (who is currently archbishop of Istanbul) is the narrating voice of this work and he recorded these words in a garden in Venice in 2000.

1915 The Armenian Files

On 11th December 2015, the same day Roberto Paci Dalò has been awarded the Premio Napoli, his new album has been released by Marsèll Records.
Roberto Paci Dalò is the winner (together with Paolo Poli, Bianca Pitzorno, and Serena Vitale) of the “Premio Napoli per la lingua e la cultura italiana 2015”, which is the most prestigious national reward supporting contemporary creation, and being assigned since 1954.
Here is the jury’s motivation: “Composer, theatre director, visual and sound artist: Roberto Paci Dalò is one of the most versatile figures of the Italian scene and certainly one of our most known artists abroad. He has been a pioneer of experimental theatre since the beginning of the 80s with the ‘Giardini Pensili’ company; he is a musician and composer had been appreciated by great artists such as John Cage and Alvin Curran; he is a visual and sound artist who could assert himself on both European and American stages, and recently also in China. So, Paci Dalò certainly has contributed to giving Italian culture, which is often melancholically limited to its own boundaries, a dynamic image keeping up with the current innovation processes.”
On the very same day, Roberto Paci Dalò’s new album, 1915 The Armenian Files, has been officially released by Marsèll Records in collaboration with Giardini Pensili, Arthub (Shanghai/Hong Kong), and the Embassy of Armenia in Italy.
