D!sturbances – sound as generative space

D!sturbances hosts a symposium that includes workshops, performances, readings, concerts, exhibitions. Six workshops are conducted by international artists who reflect around the boundaries of the arts. Among them, workshop #4, Sound as generative space, is conducted by Roberto Paci Dalò and Luca Ruzzo. The workshop focuses on the relationship between acoustic and visual perception, and examines the ways in which the boundaries between sound and image can be redrawn in physical and digital space.

The workshop considers sound as a tool to be used in the design of abstract and metaphorical spaces. Starting with texts by Emily Dickinson, we try to visualize the dreamlike images associated with the words heard, experimenting with the spatiality of verbal sound; there is a strong interest in finding new ways for a dramaturgy that interweaves sound and visual. The workshop involves composers, architects, visual and sound artists, performers and web designers, and leads to a video-sound installation presented on 6 June 2003 at Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall.
