Affreschi / due porte per Tebe is a theatre and music play that uses innovative digital and mechanical technologies to transform the scene into a single machine reactive to the various dramaturgical situations developed. The narration is a narrative of the journey, freely taken from Euripides’ Bacchae and the artistic work of Sergej Paradjanov.
Affreschi is placed before the beginning of Euripides’ Bacchae. The story of a god Dionysus atopos and traveller is intertwined with the myth of the potter Butade who created the first clay sculpture. The model face is that of the young man loved by his daughter; at night she traces his contours following his shadow. The young man is about to leave, to go far away. His story overlaps the stories of travelers from Central Asia, visionaries and dreamers but also builders and craftsmen. The craftsmen themselves – artists of everyday life – loved and sung by Sergej Paradjanov. Cantor of this travel story is The Restorer – interpreted by Marcello Sambati.
