Shadows

Shadows is an urban video installation by Roberto Paci Dalò. Shadows, faces and hands are the materials that make up this work created by the artist for “spazio zero” at the Duomo Hotel in Rimini. The installation is visible only in the evening and at night when the silence amplifies the perception. The visitor who walks distractedly along via Giordano Bruno, in the heart of Rimini, suddenly finds himself observed from large faces and hands that emerge from the darkness indicating the way of the Temple.

In a perceptive loop, “spazio zero” is the meeting place of the Duomo Hotel, which in its name already bears the Tempio Malatestiano, the cathedral, the “Temple” of Rimini. It is enough and it advances to fall into an alchemical temporal “trap”. This is how the Temple, one of the most fascinating and secret places in Rimini, meets a place of excellence of the present: the Duomo Hotel. The Hotel, designed by Ron Arad, one of the greatest contemporary designers and architects, relates to Dalò’s work through the digital medium.
Shadows is an urban, public work. The visitor is already a spectator: the installation of manifest to the passer-by as if it were a shop window. But in this case a very particular “shop”.

Art and public space

Shadows is part of a journey by Roberto Paci Dalò on the use of public space as a place of creation and presentation of art in everyday life. Following the lesson of Fellini, Rimini becomes, over time, a privileged place of artistic investigation. Artists and designers such as Roberto Paci Dalò develop in this sense avant-garde strategies of artistic fruition starting from the very organization of urban life.

Rimini come città creativa, a conference

A conference is organized entitled Rimini as a creative city in which Roberto Paci Dalò inaugurates his video installation Shadows. For the artist, the city of Rimini becomes an inexhaustible resource where the past and the future meet, thus dialoguing in a dynamic present, endowed with memory and that does not erase the wounds and signs of time, safeguarding even its wild places to protect the myth. The city appears to him as a permanent open-air laboratory, which looks to the cultural district as a possible social, ethical and economic development. Rimini as a creative city, a conversation with Monica Centanni, Vittorio D’Augusta, Marcello Di Bella, Paolo Fabbri, Alessandro Giovanardi, Leonardo Montecchi, Roberto Paci Dalò.
The Duomo Hotel is also part of this creative and civic process, inaugurating with “spazio zero” an unusual exhibition space dedicated to art, design and fashion.
